Job Introduction

An opportunity has arisen for a Control Systems ADMS Tester based in Castle Donnington.  

The successful applicant will report to the ADMS Application Team Manager within Control Systems, part of the Electricity Systems Management department. The successful candidate will be responsible for testing new releases of ADMS Application software and components. Additionally, testing existing ADMS Applications and components against new Operating system, database and other third-party software patches and updates.

Main responsibilities

  • Development and execution of test scripts and procedures on the ADMS Application, following an industry recognised Test Lifecycle Management framework, including: Test Analysis, Test Planning, Test Development, Test Environment Setup, Test Execution and Closure.
  • Application Defect Management, following a recognised Defect Lifecycle Management framework, including: Capture, Assignment, Resolution and Testing.
  • Co-ordination with the Control Systems Applications, Development, Support, WPD IT teams and other key internal and external stakeholders; working with external software suppliers to report and resolve defects.
  • Assist the Control Systems Development and Support Teams to catalogue, analyse, report and test issues with Control Systems Applications.
  • Testing of bug fixes and new features within Control Systems applications.
  • Major and minor release testing, including whole system testing and targeted patch testing.
  • Develop test scenarios to ensure quality control using automation where possible.
  • Work with WPD IT to establish test / debug test environments, where appropriate.
  • Provide support to other staff as necessary.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with relevant procedures and be responsible for specified aspects of safety policy implementation.
  • Maintain appropriate records of work carried out to ensure that performance analysis can be completed.
  • Be flexible between different types of Control Systems activities.
  • Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at work requirements, including fire & emergency precautions.
  • Provide general availability out-of-hours support.
  • Work at other company locations as required.
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade. 

Ideal candidate

  • You will be expected to have experience in Software Testing and Defect Management, and some knowledge and understanding of Industrial Control Systems.
  • Good understanding of IT Systems, Databases (SQL), Interfaces (APIs), Data Validation.
  • Good understanding of test frameworks and methodologies, including automated testing.
  • Good understanding / use of one or more programming / scripting languages is highly desirable.
  • Good logical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills including report writing, presentation skills and an ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Understanding of Software Patch Management and its role within Vulnerability Management.
  • Understanding of Cybersecurity and its role within Control System environments.
  • Highly PC literate – Proficient in the use of desktop applications including Outlook/Word/Excel/Access.
  • Educated to equivalent NVQ level 3/4.
  • Good oral & written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal and team skills.
  • Strong customer awareness and a commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Knowledge of safety and quality procedures.
