Summary

Our Transport teams ensure that the Western Power Distribution fleet operation is on the road 24/7, 365 days a year.  That means taking responsibility for safety, ensuring legal compliance and delivering it all cost-effectively. 

As well as asset management, the team also oversees driver support and training and strives to ensure Western Power Distribution employees enjoy a service that enables them to work effectively and efficiently. 

An opportunity has arisen for a Workshop Controller, based at our Redruth depot.  You will be accountable to the Transport Area Controller for the efficient control and running of the Transport Workshop.  The Controller at this level would manage a team and spend up to 30% of their time undertaking supervisory and work programming duties, with the rest of the time being spent undertaking workshop activities.

Main responsibilities

  • Ensuring the efficient and cost effective operation of the Workshop
  • Responsible for the quality and productivity of own team's work; setting targets and monitoring own and team's performance; ensuring high standards and improving the image of the Workshop
  • Developing, motivating, coaching and training individuals and the wider team
  • Controlling and monitoring expenditure against the Workshop budget
  • Setting Priorities and programming of the team's work
  • Ensuring that Workshop activities and team members comply with Company policies and procedures and health & safety legislation.

Ideal candidate

You should have considerable mechanical experience and hold a City & Guilds Motor Vehicle Certificate (minimum level 2) or equivalent.

A valid LGV (Class C minimum) driving licence is desirable but not essential.

You must be reliable, well organised and able to work as part of a small team as well as using your own initiative, representing the company positively at all times.
