I always enjoyed working with my hands and knew that WPD had excellent career progression opportunities and the varied workload, various locations appealed to me.
I’m currently involved with 132kV construction so day to day I’m installing new switchgear and apparatus.
I enjoy the camaraderie and the fact that everyone strives their best to get jobs done as efficiently as possible and to the highest possible standard.
It’s like one big team; everyone supports you and goes out of their way to help you wherever possible.
To be successful at WPD I think you need to be able to adapt to overcome problems and enjoying the challenge of getting a job done properly.
The career progression opportunities are excellent, from day one I’ve been told I can be whatever I want to be within the company. In terms of learning and development, the training I’ve undertaken throughout my apprenticeship has been excellent both on job and at the training school.
So far my biggest achievement has been completing my apprenticeship.
Completing my apprenticeship has also probably been the biggest challenge I’ve faced. There was a lot of work outside the normal day to day work but having the commitment to devote my own time to some of the requirements certainly helped.
