I applied for a position within WPD as it's a forward thinking highly motivated company. Knowing the company would be working towards DSO status and investing in low carbon initiatives means they are always striving to be better.
I currently support the Network Management Systems which are the computer systems that monitor the flow of electricity to our 7.3 million customers. This involves commissioning the telecoms in substations to second line support of the PowerOn Fusion System. I am also involved in developing a new system that will ultimately be able to forecast the electricity demand days, to weeks, to months in the future.
You never get bored, there are always new and challenging things to do.
Inclusive, hard working and always working safely. We always want to lead the industry and everyone has their part to play in ensuring we meet our targets.
Always being a team player and striving towards a common goal of being the best in the industry.
WPD always gives you the tools to develop. What you do with these tools is up to you – from apprenticeships to graduate trainees there are always career opportunities.
Being part of a team that split the old East and West Midlands Network Management System into two separate systems to allow for easier upgrades and system changes.
I have completely lost the sight in one eye and am now down to about 10% vision in the other eye and I have to use a guide dog or white cane to get around. WPD has been extremely supportive and helped fund various work place aids like magnifiers, screen reading software and Marcus my guide dog has his own bed and sleeping area. He loves coming to work with me.
WPD is an inclusive and diverse employer, so don’t think about it just go for it. You won’t regret it.
