I have always had an interest in how electrical systems work. When I first heard about this company, I knew it was the ideal company to work for because it offers exactly the kind of challenges and responsibilities I was looking for. Also, This company is recognized for the excellent way in which it treats its employees and that is really important for me.
My role is to complete a series of reports on different components of the electrical distribution network, on specific areas of the company and how the different departments intertwine with each other.
I have to attend training courses during the whole graduate scheme, where I have lectures about the network, followed by computer based tests. Also, I help my team to carry out the daily tasks involving forecasting and statistical analysis of the network.
The best thing about working with this company is the amount of knowledge that I gain every day and how good it feels to work with a team of friendly workers. I also enjoy the company culture and the flexibility I have with my hours.
Having been born and raised in Venezuela then moved to Costa Rica and later to England has allowed me to see many types of cultures and points of view. My family taught me that nothing is impossible in this life and that every effort has its reward. Helping people is always satisfying and doing what one likes is key for our well-being.
First of all, to be successful you must believe in yourself and always give your best in everything you do.
Strong communication and team working in this type of environment are vital for effectively reaching your targets but also for your personal and professional development.
When you work in WPD you realise how extensive this business is. There is always something new to learn.
This company offers us the possibility to update ourselves by sending us to training courses and different national and international conferences. Also, because the company is very large, there is the possibility to progress constantly and go to the department that best suits you.
I have several achievements both personally and professionally to be happy about. One of my biggest achievements was getting first-class honours in Electrical & Electronics at the University of Southampton after 4 years of study.
If you are the type of person who likes everything related to the electrical distribution network and passionate about the new facets that this industry is facing (E.g. Future growth, behavioural energy distribution, etc.), then this is the right place for you.
