Meet Paul

Read Paul's interview to see what he thinks about working with us at Western Power Distribution.

I started in January 2013. The main attraction to WPD was the prospect of being able to challenge myself by building a completely new career, and constantly developing new skill sets.

I orchestrate new battery installation works, 11kV maintenance program, general substation inspections and repairs. I assist in EHV outages which are associated with capital projects. All this involves organising paperwork and allocation staff to carry out the work. I pick up faults which involve thinking on your feet and problem solving.

I have always said the best thing about coming to work is that you learn something new every day. There’s always a diverse variety of work and challenges every day.

Our business culture is very much customer and safety orientated.

To be successful at WPD, you need to be motivated, driven and very hard working, to be a team player and get involved by coming up with solutions, a lot of the time under pressure.

There are many career avenues within WPD, opportunities are consistently arising to learn and progress, continual training is provided on and off the job.

Achieving my 132kV SAP.

Dealing with multiple faults over a Christmas period; limited staff available and working in extreme temperatures. Under pressure thinking on my feet while organizing staff and materials to get the work complete and the network back to operational in a timely and safe manor. Fantastic team work is essential especially in some of the most difficult working conditions I have ever worked in.

If you are willing to work hard and strive to achieve your maximum capacity then this is the place for you, a job for life, you will be rewarded with plenty of opportunities to progress excellent pay and pension and good holidays.
