Meet Carl

Read Carl's interview to see what he thinks about working with us.

I joined as an apprentice overhead linesperson and wanted a job with good prospects and good pay.

I am responsible for the content, design and structure of all the formal training programs within the company. A typical week for me can include representing the company at industry forums, talking to trainees from all of our schemes about their progress and anything that could be improved and looking at what is included within our training programs to see what needs to be added, updated or removed.

The best thing about working here is being given the opportunity to make things better for customers using personal responsibility within your area of expertise. We are a business focused on getting it right First Time Every Time and this leads to lots of job satisfaction and pride. It is also fantastic to be part of the best DNO within the UK!

The culture is one of pride in our work, passion for our customers and above all a focus on the safety of ourselves, contractors and the general public.

Everybody can be successful here if they take personal responsibility for the tasks at hand, work hard within a team environment and ensure they treat everybody as they would like to be treated.

The learning and development and career progression opportunities within the company are limitless, our president was a trainee and many of our managers and senior managers started as craft or engineering trainees. We invest heavily in our training programs and have dedicated training centers to deliver industry leading programs. We partner with major colleges and universities to provide formal qualifications in addition to on the job training giving specific knowledge, skills and behaviors.

Academically my biggest achievement was to successfully complete a part time Masters in Business Admin program while having responsibility for a large team of people. Within the working environment my biggest achievement is to have updated the design of a training program for new employees to become fully qualified Technicians.

A big challenge has been to move from a self-funded training organisation to an Employer- Provider that meets all of the Education and Skills Funding Agency requirements.

If you are passionate, want to work within an engineering industry and be part of the premier DNO in the UK, apply, the opportunities are endless.
