For me, what’s really impressive about the company is its commitment to its stakeholders. It adopts the widest possible definition of a ‘stakeholder’ as anyone who has an interest in, or is impacted by, the work of the business. For an organization which distributes electricity to over 8 million people, it never loses sight of the individuals it serves. It was important for me to join a company which keeps people at the heart of business
On a typical day, I update the pages of the websites to ensure that content is accurate, up-to-date and effective at conveying the important information needed by stakeholders. Update requests can come from colleagues from all over the company and, along with the rest of the Digital Communications team, it is my job to ensure that these are published in order to keep our website-users well informed. It’s important that we keep messaging as accessible as possible for all who wish to receive it and the website is one of the main platforms which allows us to do this.
Having only joined recently, I was struck by how quickly you feel that you belong here. Everyone is so welcoming and you are quickly given responsibilities which make you feel like you are contributing to the team, all whilst being guided so you can learn as you go.
Everyone here works hard because they are proud of the work that they are doing. It’s a great team to be a part of and it’s nice to know that there is always someone to turn to if you have a question or need any help
If you have enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, there is always someone to help you. This makes developing new skills easy and it’s great to end the day knowing a little bit more than you did when it started.
In the short time that I have worked here, I have already been enrolled onto several training sessions which are a great introduction to the business. Even when you are not in structured training, there are always people around to support your learning by answering your questions.
Joining the team and being given the opportunity to work on the website which supports our vast community.
Due to the nature of the business, I often come into contact with complex technical terminology and acronyms which I am unfamiliar with. I am overcoming this by making the most of the training sessions offered to me and seeking my own opportunities to ask questions.
